A caregiver role is rewarding but at the same time saps a great deal of energy. It is the toughest job in the world and requires 100% commitment. Based on a study commissioned by the Ministry of Social and Family Development, 20% Singaporeans display signs of depression. A survey was performed on 1,190 pairs of senior citizens and their caregivers in Singapore form 2009-1010. The survey looks at:

  • Hiring a maid reduces the stress that the caregiver faces,
  • Unmarried women forms about 25% of the caregiver. This causes a great deal of concern as most lack resources and will miss out on social activities with friends. Ultimately, when this segment of caregivers age, who will be the ones to look after them?
  • According the The Agency for Integrated Care, over 95% do not utilize services like day-care and rehabilitation are being offered by welfare organizations.
